Laura K. Stevens, Q.C.

Laura is a senior and founding partner of the firm. Her practice is concentrated in criminal law, conducting criminal cases at all trial and appellate court levels in Alberta, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. The bulk of Laura's practice is devoted to major criminal cases, while also serving as our firm's director of appeals. She is regularly retained by lawyers and other professionals to provide representation at disciplinary hearings.

Laura was a co-founder of the Alberta Criminal Trial Research Centre, and still oversees its work together with other members of our firm. She served as President of the of the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association for two years ending in 2007. For several years she also acted as this organization's newsletter editor.

As a member of the International Criminal Attorney's Association she has presented at an anti-death penalty conference in Beirut, Lebanon, and provided an independent on-site assessment of the public defender project in Kabul, Afgahanistan, which the Association jointly sponsors.

Recently Laura became a member of the Nunavut Bar, and is in the process of joining the North West Territories Bar to better serve our clients in those areas.

Laura lectured for a number of years as a sessional lecturer on the topic of criminal sentencing at the University of Alberta Law School, and continues to provide criminal law instruction for the Legal Education Society's Bar Admission course for students-at-law. Laura was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 2004.
